15 – 21 September 1981 – Queen are in New Orleans
Queen flew out to New Orleans mid-September to began rehearsals for a brief six-date tour of Venezuela and Mexico. This was essentially an extension of ‘South America Bites The Dust’ tour, the itinerary would be officially designated the ‘Gluttons For Punishment’ Tour.
The tour would kick off on the 25th of September
The band was slated for five concerts in Venezuela but due to tragedy, two shows were cancelled as the country went into mourning following the death of former president Rómulo Betancourt.
Freddie flew out to Caracas early on the 21st of September ahead of the band!
While in New Orleans, the band did a promotional photo shoot
The gentleman in the background in the original picture is Walter Versen – who was, for a number of years, Brian’s security guard (he was also Darth Vader for Freddie) and a friend.
