Queen performed their final evening Sydney, Australia

29 April 1985, Queen performed their final evening @ Entertainment Centre in Sydney, Australia 🇦🇺
“The Works Tour”

This is the band’s final performance in Australia with Freddie Mercury.

A fan recalls: “Brian played part of Waltzing Matilda again during his guitar solo. Also, at one point of the show Freddie’s mic died, and apparently it was while he was up on top of the stage behind Roger’s drum kit. And at the end of the show, Roger trashed his drum kit.”

The band will now jet ✈️ off to Japan 🇯🇵 to perform five shows as The Works Tour ends 15 May 1985 in Osaka.

Then as if that’s not enough, the band will prepare to perform one of the greatest shows of their career, Live Aid in July

Fame has changed me

“Fame has changed me, but it’s happened in two stages. I would be a fool to ignore the fact that it changed me in terms of being snobbish and arrogant in the early days. With our early success, I thought I was the bee’s knees, but then I came to realize that success can be handled in a different way; that I should pay more attention to making people realize I’m normal.”

As soon as we realized Freddie was ill

“As soon as we realized Freddie was ill, we clustered around him like a protective shell. We were lying to everyone, even our own families, because he didn’t want the world intruding on his struggle. He used to say ‘I don’t want people buying our fucking records out of sympathy.’ We all became very close. We grew up a lot.”

He was a sweet guy with a great voice.

“Freddie Mercury sang all these songs originally and he sang them better that we’re gonna sing them, he sang them in the correct keys and he sang them with confidence, and he sang them really really well and his personality , vocally and his whole projection is something that we can’t capture.

He was a sweet guy with a great voice. A lot of people have to change the keys to these songs, ‘cos they can’t do it like Freddie.”
