I Was Born To Love You’ bw ‘Stop All The Fighting’ 7” single released in the USA.

23 April 1985, Freddie Mercury’s solo hit, ‘I Was Born To Love You’ bw ‘Stop All The Fighting’ 7” single released in the USA.

This joyous and ebullient admission of love is the lead off single from Freddie’s debut solo album ‘Mr Bad Guy.’

Freddie wrote the entire album himself!

“I seem to write songs that I don’t think about them at the time but they seem to sort of catch up on me if you know what I mean. So I guess without knowing it it’s just sort of psychological. I think they just seem to be why… I think most people just write songs which are inside them. You know I’m not one of those that sort of practices the trends and say “OK, this is trendy today, let’s write a song about that”. In the end I think what actually comes out in me, and sometimes I don’t even know I’m actually doing it and they sort of catch up on me afterwards.

Most of the songs I write are all love ballads and things to do with sadness and torture and pain : at the same time it’s frivolous and tongue in cheek. That’s basically my whole nature, I guess. I’m a true romantic, and though I think everybody’s written songs in that field, I write it in my own way, with a different texture.

Basically, I’m not writing anything new, I’m not sitting here trying to say, “Look, I’ve written a song that nobody else has written before!” No. But I do it from my point of view.”

The B-Side is ‘Stop All The Fighting’ which was recorded during the ‘Mr. Bad Guy’ sessions. It’s an energetic rocker, sounding like an outtake from one of the numerous new wave rockers emerging at the time. The lyrics sort of mirror the sentiments of ‘Is This The World We Created …?’ But, it’s far more aggressive.
